IBM has claimed that they have built the world's fastest supercomputer, using 16,250 processors! This means that they beat NEC's Earth Simulator in Japan which runs at 35.86 teraflops while IBM's supercomputer can sustain speeds of 36 teraflops.

I found this bit of news at Slashdot:
"Physicists at Imperial College London described a new method for potentially encoding and storing up to one Terabyte of data, or 472 hours of film, on one optical disk the size of a CD or DVD. Maybe it won't be as large, as 100TB holographic optical storage, but still should be enough to fit every episode of The Simpsons on one disk. Dr Török, Lecturer in the Department of Physics, believes that the first disks could be on the shelves between 2010 and 2015."

I don't even have a total of 20gb of data. So unless in the future the average file size is 50mb this would probably on help companies that have large data bases because it's even to big for movies (as far as I know).

New memory card type announced

The new memory card type, known as "MMC Plus" (It's kind of like MCC) , will have much faster transfer speeds, 52 MBytes/sec, somewhat bigger capacities, AND it's compatible with current MCC and SD memory card slots. They'll also be cheaper than SD cards, because MMC manufacturers pay fewer royalties to intellectual property holders than SD supporters do.

UK consumer group questions Apple's pricing of its iTunes Music service

Oh ow, this spells problems for Apple, it's been all over the news: The price of downloading a song from iTunes in the United Kingdom is 79 pence, equal to US$1.40. In France and Germany, it is 99 euro cents, or $1.20. "There appears to be considerable evidence that the iTunes setup is prejudiced against the UK public and distorts the very basis of the single market," according to the group's statement.

Microsoft published on Tuesday a patch for a major security flaw in its software's handling of the JPEG graphics format and urged customers to use a new tool to locate the many applications that are vulnerable. The problem is that it is possible to exploit a flaw in Windows that lets a hacker run a malicious program that is hidden inside a JPEG image. Windows users could fall prey to an attack just by visiting a Web site that has affected images.
