Google Giving Gmail Invites Out from Their Home Page?

I am sure you know of Gmail, Google's spin of email, and how it is invite only. Google sometimes has plugs for themselves at the bottom of their home page and when I just went to their home page I saw a link to a Gmail invite (I already have aaccount, though)!
