Gmail Invites (Soon)

I wonder when GMail will start up properly? I suspect they're still building infrastructure. It's been so long now that I've forgotten I even left my email address with Google so they can tell me when. What's it been - 6 months or more since they announced it? 8 months?

They announced it in April.
